Hidden Rod-Actuated Handbrake

BMW E82

A remote, rod-activated handbrake system that keeps the cockpit looking stock while retaining the factory dual-circuit ABS setup, with its mounting bracket hidden under a 3D-printed cover.

Keeping the ABS system meant retaining dual brake master cylinders, but there was no room near the driver for a conventional handbrake lever and cylinder pairing. Instead, a remote rod-activated system was designed, actuating the rear master cylinder from a laser-cut, welded steel bracket mounted in the rear seat area.

To keep the installation invisible from the cabin, the handbrake bracket itself was 3D scanned once built, and a 3D-printed cover was designed to fit over it — hiding the hardware without giving up access for maintenance.

Highlights

  • Remote rod actuation keeps the factory dual-circuit ABS system intact
  • Laser-cut, welded steel mounting bracket in the rear seat area
  • 3D-scanned bracket used to design a concealing 3D-printed cover
  • Cockpit reads completely stock from the driver's seat
