Dual Shear Selector Rod
BMW E82
A CNC-billet dual shear selector rod for the E82 gear linkage, fixing a factory design known for shearing under hard use and sharpening shift feel in the process.
The factory E82 selector rod is a known weak point — the original welded-steel design is prone to shearing under repeated hard shifts. Rather than reinforcing the factory part, the original was 3D scanned to build an accurate CAD model, then redesigned as a dual shear rod and CNC milled from billet aluminum.
Beyond fixing the durability issue, the stiffer billet construction removes flex from the shift linkage, giving a noticeably more direct, positive shifting feel.
Highlights
- Fixes a factory failure point known for shearing under hard use
- 3D scan of the original part used to build an accurate CAD model
- CNC milled from billet aluminum as a dual shear design
- Improves shift feel and durability at the same time
