Brake Cooling Duct

BMW E82 / E90

A 3D-printed brake duct inspired by the Porsche GT3's design, feeding cold high-pressure air from under the car straight to the disc through the OEM brake shield.

3D ScanningCAD Design3D Printing

The arm and wheel housing area were 3D scanned first, then the duct was designed in CAD around that exact scanned geometry and produced by 3D printing — a shape too organic and space-constrained to make sense as sheet metal or a mold.

The design borrows its core idea from the Porsche GT3's brake duct: it picks up cold air from the high-pressure area under the car and routes it to the inner face of the disc through the OEM brake shield. Unlike open scoop-style ducts, this routing means road debris doesn't have anywhere to lodge in the airpath.

Highlights

  • 3D scan of the arm and wheel housing used to design an exact-fit duct
  • Routes cold, high-pressure air to the disc through the OEM brake shield
  • Debris-resistant routing, unlike open scoop-style ducts
  • Produced by 3D printing for a shape sheet metal couldn't replicate
