Rear Pushrod Damper Conversion
BMW E36
A rear pushrod damper installation giving 150mm of wheel travel, so the suspension can absorb real-world bumps while still handling heavy downforce without bottoming out.
A pushrod layout decouples the damper's motion ratio from a fixed strut-style installation, so damper travel and wheel travel can be tuned relative to each other instead of being locked together by geometry.
The conversion targets 150mm of rear wheel travel — enough to keep the tire loaded and tracking on imperfect surfaces, while still giving the suspension enough range to carry significant aero downforce without the chassis bottoming out over bumps or curbs.
Highlights
- 150mm of rear wheel travel for consistent traction on rough surfaces
- Pushrod geometry allows independent tuning of damper travel vs. wheel travel
- Suspension travel sized to carry aero downforce without bottoming out
