LSD friction plate

This is a 2mm thick friction plate, a replacement OEM part for BMW 188mm style differentials, fitting E34 and E36 diffs, two are needed for a LSD rebuild.

An LSD friction plate is a key component in a limited slip differential that helps control how and when the differential locks. It works within the clutch-type LSD assembly as one of the friction surfaces that engage under load, transferring torque between the wheels and limiting slip. This allows the diff to lock progressively under acceleration or cornering, improving traction and putting power down more effectively to both wheels. The result is better grip out of corners, reduced inside-wheel spin, and more predictable handling, especially in performance and track driving.

Wear on this part prevents the LSD from locking properly, reducing its effectiveness and allowing unwanted slip. While aftermarket alternatives exist, they frequently introduce undesirable characteristics such as increased noise and accelerated wear.
